As a church, we are following the measures implemented by the UK government to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.
That means we won’t be gathering for our Sunday services or mid-week events. We will instead be meeting online and you are most welcome to join us via YouTube and Facebook Live from the comfort of your home.
Hope Church Thetford
Building a diverse church, serving our community
Construindo uma igreja diversa, servindo a nossa comunidade
Hope Church is a church that believes in Jesus
Welcome to our church, we really hope you’ll find family and friendship here.
We are a growing Christian church based at the heart of Thetford in Norfolk. The church family is made up of a friendly, dynamic and multicultural bunch of people, who have a passion to share the love of Jesus in this town.
We’d love to see you at one of our Sunday morning meetings. You’ll be met with a friendly smile, a great cup of coffee, and a nice croissant!
We offer translation from English into Portuguese.
Meet the team
Nigel Worth – Lead Elder
Nigel is married to Glenda and they have two grown up children, Jenny and Phil. Nigel is a cricket enthusiast, and an avid follower of Crystal Palace FC (we don’t hold that against him!) Glenda is a Geordie girl through and through and loves a good Stottie! Nigel and Glenda both served on the staff team at Kings Church Braintree. They moved to Thetford in 2011, and are excited to be here. God has given them some very clear promises for Hope Church Thetford, and they know it is a privilege to be part of what God has for this beautiful town.
What We Believe
The creator of the universe loves us, cares for us and longs to be in a living relationship with us. And he loves you and wants to know you too.
God’s heart was broken when sin entered the world. Adam and Eve had chosen to look to themselves rather than upon God’s glory. God could no longer be in relationship with his beloved human race.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3v16.
Jesus came to save us from our sins. He came to save me and he came to save you. He paved the way for us back to our heavenly Father. Every wrong thing that you and I have ever thought, said or done was completely erased, gone forever. It died with Jesus when he died a terrible death on the cross for you and I.
What was given to us instead, was new life. A completely free, gracious gift that not only means we can live life to the full here on earth, but we are promised eternal life in Heaven with our Father too.
Jesus came so that we can have life to the full. A life free from addictions, worry, doubt, and fear. A life that is full of joy, a life that is full of Hope.
We’d love to explore this further with you. Come along to one of our Sunday meetings or join us at the Alpha course to find out more.
“And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common.” Acts 2v44
There is a beautiful picture that is painted in Acts 2 of a church that lives together in community, shares everything together and praises God together with a gladness of heart. We read that God performs many signs and wonders amongst them and continually adds to them. This is what we desire for our church!
Life Groups are a fantastic way to get connected and form deep, meaningful friendships that encourage one another in our Christian walk.
We currently have 3 life groups that meet on different days of the week.
Hope Kids – Children’s Ministry
“But Jesus said: Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to me: for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19v14
At Hope Church we love children and families and they are at the centre of all we do. It is so important that our vision and values are reflected in our children’s work and that our children develop good, supportive friendships that encourage them to follow God throughout their childhood and adolescent years.
We’re always looking for new ways to expand as a church and as we grow we are looking to develop a youth work.
Following the advice for re-opening places of worship provided by the UK government, we have made the decision to start meeting together every
Friday at 7pm.
Fun2Play, the venue where our meetings are taking place, is Covid safe. It is set up in such a way which allows for groups of up to 6 people from the same family to sit together at a safe distance from others.
Numbers of attendees are limited and people need to book in. If you would like to join us, please go to the link below to register.
Hope Kids @ Fun2Play
on the last Sunday of each month at 5pm
Hope Kids at Fun2Play is our monthly outreach for families with children aged from 1 to 11 years old. We have lots of fun together. The children play, make new friends, worship Jesus and learn from the bible before having some food and heading home ready for the week ahead.
The events are free of charge and take place on the last Sunday of each month at 5pm at Fun2Play, 9 Roman Way, Thetford.
Since early 2018 Hope Church has been partnering with the Keys Community Detox Project, based near Brighton, to help those in our community addicted to drugs or alcohol to find freedom.
The pathway to freedom is a partnership of medical expertise provided by the Project, in collaboration with local GPs in Thetford, and spiritual ministry which is handled by a team in our church.
Jesus announced that he had come to “proclaim good news to the poor….freedom for the prisoners” and we believe that his church is authorised to continue his ministry today.
We welcome all support for this ministry area.
International Ministry – Romania
Over the last few years Hope Church has made a close connection with another Hope Church, this time in Romania! Groups have gone out to provide support to a church plant in Comani, a large village just outside of Draganesti-Olt, in the south of the country.
We have been involved in an eyeglass ministry, where nearly 200 people from the local community were given blood pressure screenings, counselling, reading glasses, exposure to Jesus, and prayer. We were also involved in children’s ministry, meeting and praying for people and families, preaching, women’s ministry, and a food parcel project.
Over the course of the week, we have seen many local adults happily gave their lives to Christ and experience physical and emotional healing. And many, many children said “Da!” to Jesus. These have been fruitful visits but also sobering ones as the team appreciated the poverty in which many of these dear people live throughout the year.
We continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Romania, and the relationship between Hope Church Thetford and Hope Church Romania continues to grow. The next trip is planned for 14 – 19 May 2020.
